Today, I am going to describe step by step on how to bake delicious Bread at Home during this pandemic COVID-19. As we all know there is a lockdown in many cities in Nigeria and other cities around the world because of the widespread of Coronavirus. Staying at home alone doesn’t guarantee safety, eating healthy foods are also important. In lieu of that, I am going to explain some simple steps on how to bake healthy and delicious bread for your family.
Before I proceed further, let me quickly explain some nutritional value and health benefits of bread and why bread is an essential part of a healthy and balanced diet.
Bread contains a wide range of vitamins and minerals including B group vitamins thiamine (B1), Niacin (B3) which are important for releasing energy from food and maintaining healthy skin, eyes, and nails. It contains the B vitamin Folate (Folic Acid) which is important for pregnancy as it can help to prevent neural tube defects such as spina bifida.
Bread also contains Fibre, which is an important source of dietary fibre which helps to keep our digestive system healthy, helps control blood sugar and cholesterol levels and makes us feel fuller for longer. It also contains a certain amount of protein, iron, calcium, sugar and energy.
Bread is a low-fat food. An average medium slice of white bread contains 0.6g of fat, brown bread contains 0.7g and wholemeal contains 0.9g. Just be careful with what you put on it and stick to healthy options for spreads and toppings.
Having said all mentioned all these nutritional values of bread, let us now start baking.
1. Flour—– 3cups
2. Yeast—— 2tspoon
3. Sugar—– ½cup
4. Milk——-18g (Optional)
5. Water—– 2cups (warm water)
a. In a bowl,pour in a cup of warm water,add yeast and sugar allow it to proof for 5minutes.
b. In another separate bowl, add flour and yeast mixture.
c. Mix together thoroughly.
d. Pour the mixture on a clean and flat surface knead very well to incorporate bubbles.
e. Grease a pan with oil, then put in the kneaded mixture, cover and allow to rise for 60minutes.
f. After, pour out the raised mixture and knead for 2 minutes. Cut into smaller sizes.
g. Grease your baking pan(desired shape)
h. Roll small pieces into balls and put it inside the pan by spacing it.
i. Cover and allow to rise for another 1hour.
j. Preheat oven, under low heat, put in the rises mixture and allow to bake for 30 minutes.
Once the top is crusty, it ready for Consumption.
